Emily joined the team at the Sleep/Wake Research Centre in 2025 as a doctoral student in the Massey University Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) programme. Her thesis explores sleep as a pathway to support adolescent wellbeing, and given the bidirectional relationship between sleep and mental health, particularly sleep's association with depression. Emily’s research primarily focuses on how adolescents in Aotearoa New Zealand understand and perceive the connection between sleep and mood, the advice they would offer to peers experiencing sleep difficulties, and how they believe others can best support their sleep. She will be conducting focus groups and one-on-one interviews (or interviews with whānau) with adolescents aged 16 to 18 years in Aotearoa.
