What we do
From learning to discovery to real‑world advice.
For partners
We work in partnership with government agencies, industries, unions, and communities to address real‑world challenges related to shift work, fatigue, and sleep health. Our approach is grounded in collaboration and co‑design, working alongside partners and communities to ensure our research and advice are relevant, responsive, and informed by lived experience.
Our staff bring extensive experience in evidence‑based consulting, combining scientific rigour with practical insight to support safer, healthier, and more sustainable practices. We also provide independent accident investigation and expert testimony in matters relating to fatigue and work schedules, offering trusted, independent expertise to inform policy, practice, and decision‑making.
For researchers
Our multi‑disciplinary research is grounded in the premise that improving health, safety, productivity, and wellbeing depends on a deeper understanding of the dynamic interactions between sleep, waking function, and circadian regulation.
We work at the intersection of disciplines, drawing on diverse scientific, professional, and cultural perspectives. Our research environment is enriched by collaboration among researchers, students, and partners, fostering innovative approaches to sleep and circadian science with real‑world relevance.
For students
We host and provide supervision for dedicated candidates at the Honours, Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral levels.
We offer Aotearoa New Zealand's only dedicated university courses in sleep and circadian science. We offer courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels that focus on sleep and circadian science and its applications in health, everyday functioning, shift work, fatigue management and sleep disorders.
We provide lectures, presentations, seminars, workshops and professional development for a diverse range of groups and organisations.
Our featured projects
Improving everyday life through sleep and circadian science.
Turning research evidence into real‑world impact
Our partnerships with government agencies, industries, and community groups are designed for impact. We work with our partners to apply sleep science to real‑world challenges, supported by collaborative research that advances understanding and strengthens evidence.
Sleep resources
Our sleep resources translate research on sleep and circadian health into practical guidance for everyday life and work. Originally developed to support communities during times of disruption, they continue to inform understanding of sleep, fatigue, and wellbeing across diverse contexts.
