252301: Sleep, health and performance
This fully online, single‑semester course is offered in Semester 1 each year. It is a core course in the Integrated Human Health major of the Bachelor of Health Science at Massey University and may also be taken as an elective for other degree programmes or as a standalone course.
The course is designed for students interested in sleep health, circadian rhythms, sleep loss, and circadian disruption. Students develop a strong foundation in sleep and circadian science and then extend this knowledge to explore the role of sleep and circadian rhythms in physical and mental health, everyday functioning, and shift work.
Who should take this course?
This course is suitable for students from a wide range of disciplines who want to understand how sleep and circadian rhythms influence health, wellbeing, and performance. It is particularly relevant for students studying health sciences, psychology, human performance, and related fields, as well as for those with a general interest in sleep health and its real‑world applications.
